Borra Caves

Borra Caves sit in the Ananthagiri Hills near Araku Valley, discovered by British geologist William King in 1807 and formed over roughly a million years by the Gosthani River flowing through limestone deposits. Reaching a depth of 80 meters, they're considered among India's deepest and largest cave systems, their interior filled with an extraordinary variety of stalactite and stalagmite formations — some locals interpret specific shapes as resembling Shiva-Parvati, a mother and child, or a sage's beard, giving the geology a mythological dimension alongside its scientific significance.
