Barot Valley is a lesser-known retreat in the Mandi district, set along the Uhl River at around 1,800 meters and surrounded by dense cedar and pine forests. Originally developed for a hydel power project on the Uhl River, the village has quietly turned into one of Himachal's most peaceful offbeat destinations, largely overlooked in favor of Manali and Shimla. Its riverside walking trails, trout hatcheries, and old wooden houses give it an unhurried, village-first character. Barot suits nature lovers, anglers, and trekkers looking for a base away from commercial tourism. It works well as a starting point for treks toward Rajgundha, Billing, and the remote Bada Bhangal valley, while shorter walks along the Uhl River offer an easy, restorative pace for casual visitors.
