Kalpa is a small town in Kinnaur district, perched above Reckong Peo with uninterrupted views of the Kinner Kailash range. Once the district headquarters and a stop favored by British officers for its climate, Kalpa has stayed relatively quiet compared to the busier hill stations further west. Its traditional wood-and-stone houses, apple orchards, and old Buddhist and Hindu shrines give it a layered, unhurried character. The town works well for travelers who want dramatic mountain views without a demanding trek, along with a base for exploring the wider Kinnaur valley. Short walks around Kalpa lead to the Narayan-Nagini Temple, Kalpa Monastery, and Roghi village near the Suicide Point viewpoint, while longer day trips reach Sangla and Chitkul.
