Pangi Valley is a remote tribal region in Chamba district, tucked along the Chenab River behind the Pir Panjal range. Cut off from the rest of Himachal for most of the year due to heavy snowfall, it opens up only through the Sach Pass, a high and often treacherous mountain crossing accessible roughly from June to October. This isolation has preserved a distinct culture, with villages like Killar, Purthi, and Dharwas retaining traditions and a way of life largely untouched by mainstream tourism. Pangi is suited to experienced, adventurous travelers rather than casual sightseers — road conditions are difficult, facilities are limited, and the journey itself is part of the experience.
