Daksum is a forest retreat in the Anantnag district, set along the Bringhi River at around 2,438 meters, on the road that eventually climbs to the high Sinthan Pass toward Kishtwar. Its main character comes from dense coniferous forest, gushing mountain streams, and open grassy meadows tucked between the trees — a landscape built for slow walking and quiet camping rather than structured sightseeing. Unlike Pahalgam, its better-known neighbor to the north, Daksum sees only a fraction of the visitor traffic despite comparable scenery. The area suits trekkers, anglers, and travelers seeking a genuinely peaceful forest stay — the Bringhi River is well known locally as "Angler's Heaven" for its trout, though fishing requires prior permission from the Jammu and Kashmir Forest Department. Daksum also serves as the natural stopover point for the dramatic drive up to Sinthan Top, a high mountain pass with panoramic views and enough remaining snow most of the year to appeal to adventurous travelers. With accommodation limited mainly to government tourism bungalows and forest rest houses rather than resorts, Daksum keeps a low-key, back-to-basics character that's increasingly hard to find elsewhere in Kashmir.
