Coorg (Madikeri)

Coorg (officially Kodagu district) is a hill region in the Western Ghats known for its coffee and spice plantations, dense forest, and a distinct Kodava culture with its own language, cuisine, and martial history rarely found elsewhere in Karnataka. Madikeri, the district headquarters, serves as the practical base, its misty hillside setting having earned Coorg comparisons to Scotland since the colonial era. Talakaveri, the symbolic source of the sacred Kaveri River high in the surrounding hills, adds a significant pilgrimage dimension to what is otherwise primarily a nature-and-plantation destination.
