Tal Chhapar sits in Churu district, a compact grassland wildlife sanctuary protecting one of the densest blackbuck antelope populations in India, alongside significant raptor and migratory bird activity during winter months. The sanctuary's flat, open terrain makes for excellent visibility and photography conditions, comparable in character to Gujarat's Velavadar National Park, yet Tal Chhapar receives far fewer visitors despite similar wildlife significance. Tal Chhapar suits wildlife photographers and birders specifically — blackbuck sightings here are close to guaranteed given the population density, and the sanctuary's winter raptor activity (including harriers) adds a serious birding dimension. Given the sanctuary's modest scale, most visits are day trips or a single overnight stay rather than an extended base.
