Darma Valley sits in the far eastern corner of Pithoragarh district at roughly 3,470 meters, formed by the Darma River (Darma Ganga) and sandwiched between the Lassar Yangti and Kuthi Yangti valleys, near the borders of both Tibet and Nepal. The valley holds 12 villages belonging to the Rang tribal community, and its central appeal is direct, close-range views of the five-peaked Panchachuli massif — according to local legend, the site where the Pandavas cooked their final meal before ascending to heaven, adding mythological weight to an already dramatic landscape. Darma Valley suits genuinely committed trekkers and travelers willing to arrange the demanding, multi-day journey via Dharchula — the route to Sobla, Dar, Sela, Baling, and finally Dantu or Duktu villages passes through alpine meadows, dense forest, and increasingly stark high-altitude terrain, with the trek to Panchachuli Base Camp itself taking 2-3 additional days beyond Sobla. Homestays in the valley's tribal villages offer genuine cultural immersion for those making the journey.
