Niti Valley sits east of Mana Valley in the hinterland of Joshimath, its main village of Niti positioned at 3,600 meters near the Niti Pass, which leads onward to southern Tibet. Historically restricted to outside visitors and requiring specific permission to enter (with only Niti village itself now requiring special permission, while the rest of the valley has opened up in recent years), the valley offers genuinely remote, high-altitude Himalayan scenery and villages that receive minimal outside visitor traffic even by Uttarakhand's already offbeat standards. Niti Valley suits travelers with genuine interest in trans-Himalayan border country and a willingness to arrange the necessary permits and long drive from Joshimath — the valley's isolation has preserved both its landscape and its traditional Bhotiya community life, offering a genuinely different register of remoteness than even Uttarakhand's other offbeat destinations.
