Lava, Lolegaon, and Rishop are three small hill villages in the Kalimpong subdivision, roughly 20-30 km apart, gateway settlements to Neora Valley National Park — an 88 sq km reserve considered one of the richest biodiversity zones in the Eastern Himalayas, home to red pandas, black bears, and dense bamboo forest. Lava draws visitors for its monastery and birding trails; Lolegaon (also called Kaffer) is known for a suspended canopy walk through the treetops and Kanchenjunga views; Rishop, higher and less developed, offers some of the region's most dramatic sunrise views.
